FACTS ABOUT BLACK FRIDAY

THANK GOD IT’S BLACK FRIDAY

T. G. I. B. F

What is the origin of black Friday?

Why call it “Black” Friday

Some said it is called black because of the violence and mayhem that erupts on that day....

Ahn ahn you can lie ooo!!!

Alright let’s get the facts right

Black Friday Originates from America in the days of old… around the time when the first President of America George Washington was in power. It was inaugurated as an initiative by merchants to catch into the happy mood just after the Thanksgiving Day, the thanksgiving day is always the last Thursday of November.

So FACT: Black Friday is the Last Friday of November

But then, retailers start their black Friday sales a week or so before the last Friday.

Why use color black?

The Black color stemmed from accounting terms, Black Color is used when indicating Profit. So during this time people come en-masse to buy a lot of things. Needless to say, since November precedes December: a season of gift, gifts and gifts… so merchants and retailer clear out their stocks and make huge profits. Their Accounts that may have been Red throughout the year becomes Black! PROFIT ALL THE WAY!!

So FACT: Black Friday was and is NOT a not a Negative Term.

So How did discounting start?

Simple, Retailers will want to outsmart each other, so they entice customers with discounts, so the greater the discounts, the more the rush.

So FACT: It is not originally compulsory for Discount to exist on Black Friday.

Giant Retailers and Merchants can afford to give huge discounts, but small retailers that get affected by the Black Friday fever and try to imitate the discount trend, tend not to gain at the end.

Since Black Friday existed a long while and it is not all about discount, why the sudden frenzy in Nigeria?

This is simply because now it is easy shop online with the advent of online Shops like Amazon, ebay, Alibaba, and now in Nigeria, online malls have shown to have huge success through the likes of Jumia, Konga, Dealdey, Yudala and so on. Hence, it is easy now to catch in on a lot of people. You can simply be in your comfort zone and navigate all over various online malls for cool discounts

But the truth is:

People get lazier,

People get more gullible,

So a lot of retailers hosted on the online malls give false discounts by inflating the original price and give discount that falls on the normal price.
